Blue Demons Notch 14th Consecutive State Wrestling Title

    (WSLS)-Christiansburg shrugged off a weather-condensed version of the VHSL state tournament and rolled to a 14th consecutive win on Friday.  The Blue Demons put seven in the finals and two more in the 3rd/4th place round to easily outpoint Cave Spring for the 3A title. Christiansburg racked up three titles by Marshall Keller at 120, Hunter Bolen at 138 and Creed Lumpp at 152, and four runner up finishes to put up 153 points. Cave Spring was a distant second with 84.5  Other area teams in the top ten include Brookville 4th with 61.6, Northside 8th with 37 pts, Lord Botetourt 9th at 30, and Alleghany 10th with 29.

    In the 1A Ranks, Rural Retreat dominated  with 176.5 and the title. Other area teams in the mix included George Wythe as the runnerup with 68, Radford tied for 3rd at 58, and Parry McCluer 7th with 44 points.

    In the 2A tournament, Floyd Co and Martinsville tied for 12th, and James River managed 19th place. In Group 4A Jefferson Forest was the top local squad with a 7th place showing. Amherst County was 10th, EC Glass 17th and William Fleming 20th.

    The teams competed in a single elimination tournament until the semifinal round, where losers in the semifinals wrestled for 3rd and 4th.   The tournament reverted back to what the "old time" tournament set up used to be because of impending weather coming to the Roanoke Valley on Saturday.
