ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke chapter of the Sierra Club is pushing the national forest service to deny surveying for the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

On Thursday, the group gave members of the Jefferson National Forest Service 600 signatures opposing the move.

The Sierra Club is encouraging people to say no to all requests from Consol Energy, the company set to build the pipeline.

"It's a tactic, it's an approach," said Roanoke Group President Dan Crawford. "We can say if you aren't going to allow them to build, why allow them to survey? This is complicated, it puts the national forest service in an awkward position."

The national forest service said allowing surveying for the Mountain Valley Pipeline does not mean any construction would be approved.
