ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Medical equipment no longer in use at Carilion Clinic will soon make a difference in the lives of people overseas.

A group of Carilion doctors and employees wrapped and loaded bypass and perfusion equipment Tuesday to be sent to Samaritan's Purse, a nonprofit organization.

Carilion's senior vice president, Dr. Verne Baker said the organization will distribute the equipment to those in need in third-world countries.

Dr. Baker explained, "We want to donate that to some organization that can take it elsewhere and provide them with some of the equipment they've never seen before in many cases, and really help them provide better healthcare."

Dr. Baker said some third-world countries have never seen defibrillators or bypass machines.

Carilion also made an equipment donation to Sierra Leone earlier in February.
