CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - A Christiansburg man already charged with hit-and-run is now facing a second charge in a separate offense, officials say.

Walter Ray Royal, 60, has been charged with a Class 5 felony hit-and-run following an investigation into a crash that occurred on January 28, 2015 just after 8:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Cambria Street.

Officials say Royal allegedly entered a lane of traffic on Cambria Street, struck another vehicle and fled the scene. No injuries were reported, though damage to the victim's vehicle was evident.

They say the fleeing vehicle was later identified as a rental car. Royal was the only named driver on the rental agreement.  A Class 5 felony hit-and-run is punishable by a prison term of 1-10 years and up to a $2,500 fine.

Town officials say Royal was previously charged with a hit-and-run following an incident on January 16 when he allegedly struck a woman driving a moped on North Franklin Street near the intersection of Shoppers Way. They say the victim in that case was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. She was later released.

Royal is currently being held on no bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail.
