DAN RIVER (WSLS 10) - A year after a massive coal ash spill from Duke Energy, research funded by the company, as well as North Carolina and the Environmental Agency, shows the Dan River is in good condition.

Tests by the state of North Carolina, the EPA, Duke found water quality returned to normal levels just days after the spill - and drinking water quality always remained safe.

North Carolina State University determined the river was suitable to be used for crops and livestock in April 20-14.

A July 2014 check performed by the EPA indicated clean up along the river was complete. And studies done in November show mussel life in the Dan are flourishing.
