Clintwood man dies after his water tanker truck went off road

DICKENSON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A water tanker truck driver died Tuesday after his truck rolled down a steep incline. 

VSP say Sr. Trooper A.P. Peak responded to a single-vehicle crash in Dickenson County just before noon.

The crash occurred on a private road, Wampler Ridge Road, off of Aily Road.

A water tanker truck was driving east on Wampler Ridge Road to make a delivery when it ran of the right side of the road. The tanker overturned and rolled down a steep incline.

Its driver, Michael E. Mayo, 26, of Clintwood, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
