The Department of Energy toured the Berglund Center one of Roanoke's showcase projects.

The building has new heating and cooling systems, upgraded lights, and a cost saving maintenance schedule.

"We in Roanoke really focus on energy efficiency," says Ken Cronin, Director of General Services and Sustainability. "We can't really control the price of gas or control the price of electricity, but we can control the amount of energy we use so we focus on that with our buildings as well as our fleet."

The changes are expected to save the center about $180,000 a year.
