They say over 300 students from high schools and colleges in the Danville area, including Caswell County and North Carolina didn't take off but instead gave a day of service.

Organizers say if young people feel involved in the community maybe they too can make a difference like Dr. King.

Workers showcased a documentary with Martin Luther King Jr. and students from across the area by local filmmakers called "I am Dan River Region."

Tyquan Graves attends Hargrave Military Academy.

He was one of hundreds of students who watched the film, and volunteered his time for a day of service.

"We should volunteer and make the city a better place to be," Graves said.

Which is the message Tyquan took away after learning about King.

Tyquan says King had a dream and made it a reality.

"Back to reflect on the volunteering part, if you're 100 percent you will see change."
