Organizers say if you give an hour you could save two or three lives.

Now is a particularly hard time for the Red Cross, because a lot donors are suffering from flu and cold.

"Sometimes it's hard to get people's attention right after the holidays, you know, you're kind of dazed and also again weather plays a big impact, snow and ice events come up and that can deter donors for obvious reasons," said Bill Johnson, American Red Cross.

Johnson says hopefully a new Red Cross app will get your attention and inspire folks to give blood.

You download it and you can track which hospital your donation goes to.
