BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) – There’s a wicked new restaurant opening in Blacksburg Thursday.
Wicked Taco will open its doors Thursday at noon.
Two friends came up with the idea to open the restaurant and decided to open their first location in the college town. Co-owner Todd Townsend says the concept is fresh– fresh, fast- food.
Everything from the tortillas to the vegetables and meats are made fresh throughout the day. Townsend says the tortillas are made to order in-house, as is the chicken, turkey and vegetables. There’s an extensive salsa bar with up to ten fresh salsas made throughout the day.
Wicked Taco also relies on local farmers.
“We’re working with local farmers in the community that are creating our salsa,” Townsend said. “So they’re actually growing peppers for me and we’re doing salsas unique only to Blacksburg.
Townsend said in coming up with the concept, they focused on avoiding a “chain” feel. They “wanted the students and the town to own it.”
Wood from local barns were used in some of the construction. Students designed the skateboard decks used as art on the walls.
Wicked Taco will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Construction is now underway for a second location in Raleigh, North Carolina.
