ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Virginia Museum of Transportation expects to hit 50,000 visitors this year for a second time in a row.

The museum credits the 611 Locomotive which drew thousands of people before it left to be restored at the North Carolina Transportation Museum.

So far this year visitors from 59 countries and across the U.S. came to the museum.

The museum expects more people will come next year when the 611 is back here in the spring.

"People love this engine," says Fran Ferguson, Director of Development. "If they're willing to spend money to get repaired and restored they're gonna come to Roanoke and the great thing is when they'll come they'll stay in restaurants, hotels, and shop our attractions so it'll be a boost for the Valley."

If you would like to visit the museum, it is offering a $5 admission as a thank you for the holidays.
