ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Hundreds of dollars will soon be donated to the Military Family Support Center in Roanoke as part of the WSLS Storm Team 10’s 3 Degree Guarantee.
Military Family Support Center is a non-profit supporting the families of military members while they’re serving domestically or overseas.
It was a Navy Reserve friend who referred Gerald and Rachel Peterson to the Military Family Support Center.
This mother and father first turned to MFSC for help with groceries, but when they tragically lost a child to SIDS earlier this year the center was there to help in their darkest hour.
They were surprised to learn the non-profit wanted to pay for baby Luke’s burial costs.
“I knew they cared I just didn’t know they cared to that level,” Rachel said.
“You hear a lot of things being in the military, mission first sailor always, ship, shipmate self that kind of thing and a lot of it is just kind of a mantra you just say it to say it and a lot people I guess go their own career and never see it,” explained Gerald. “To see that happen in real life, man that’s an amazing experience.”
The Military Family Support Center says the $767 Three Degree donation will help pay for new clients, which they saw a 250-percent increase of last year.
