ROANOKE (WSLS) - Roanoke city council approved to transfer funds Monday afternoon for a third trash compactor that will be located on the 100 block of Kirk Avenue SW.

As we told you before, the first one in the downtown Market area created some issues. Some of those involved safety concerns and paying staff more to carry trash out.

We spoke to some people in the area where the third trash compactor will be located. Some say it won't be a big change while others are concerned about the inconvenience.

Skip Decker with Solid Waste Management says they are planning on having more trash compactors around the city for residents and business owners.

The hope is that the trash compactors will keep the streets clean for visitors.

"The initiative was started because of Downtown Roanoke Inc.," says Decker. "It has proven to be very successful. DRI is our partner and we want to support them in keeping our city clean."

The trash compactor will be ready to use by next spring and cost $150,000.
