(WSLS 10) - A new study finds toy-related injuries increased over recent decades. 

According to a report published Monday in Clinical Pediatrics, the number of children getting hurt while playing with toys has risen 40 percent since 1990.

The study found foot-powered scooters are largely responsible for the increase. 

Doctors at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio found a child is treated every three minutes for a toy-related injury. 

Younger kids are prone to choking on small toys, and older kids are more likely to get hurt on ride-on toys.
