BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - Bedford Christian Ministries says it needs some help to assist families this winter.

The non-profit organization helps provide groceries for people in need and spends about $2,100 on food every month.

However, with the cost of food going up and donations down, it may be forced to help less families.

It currently helps about a thousand families in the Bedford area.

In addition to helping put food on the table it helps pay for people's electric bills.

"Generally during the summer our donations of both food and money dry up pretty drastically so that by October our cash balance is pretty low and our shelves can be pretty empty," says Houston Crum, financial aid director.

The organization is dependent on volunteers and is open three days a week.
