(WSLS) - Identity theft is a growing issue. Throughout the month of November, WSLS 10 and Kodiak Shredding are teaming up to help fight it.

At Monday's first Shred-A-Thon event, 300 vehicles brought over 10,000 pounds of documents to be shredded to Virginia Furniture Market in Rocky Mount.

Shredding is one easy way residents can help protect their identity from being stolen, and these events can save folks some money too. Anything you bring to the designated locations will be shredded for free.

Three more events are planned in November for those who missed the first one.

All events will run from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m.

November 10th –    Christiansburg
                                  G& H Appliance  - 1290 Roanoke St.

November 17th -      Vinton
Woods Service Center  -  418 E Washington Ave

November 24th -      Roanoke
Tanglewood Mall  -  4420-A Electric Rd

Items that can be shredded include legal and financial documents such as old bills, credit card offers, and anything with your personal information that you want to safely get rid of.
