(WSLS) - If you're one of the people waiting on a possible recall notice on one of the more than 7 million vehicles recalled due to faulty airbags, there's a way you don't have to wait.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) urged owners of certain Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors vehicles to act immediately but many of the notices have yet to go out.

The agency set up a website allowing you to put in your VIN number but it's been down intermittently.

Keep in mind, the recall is only for airbags sold or used in high humidity areas and Virginia is not counted as one of the states.

If you're still concerned or don't want to wait for the notice, you can sign up for NHTSA recall alerts which go out before recall letters are mailed. Click here to get receive recall alerts on
