FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS) – Students and the rest of the community celebrated school spirit at Franklin County High School Friday night.

Throughout the week students enjoyed homecoming traditions like a walk down midfield for the homecoming court.

Almost all who walked on the 50 yard line Friday night were filled with smiles except for one person, Billy Call. He was emotional as the community recognized him as Mr. Football 1964.

“It’s really an honor to be asked to come out after 50 years,” says Call. “I really appreciate them thinking of me … bringing me back.”

Call watched the homecoming game with his wife, Velma, whom he met while a student at Franklin County High School.

Back in the 1960’s, they remember homecoming week filled with events and, of course, football. However things have changed.

Students now have different themes for each day.

“It ranges from nerd day, to character day, to blast from the past. That’s a favorite one,” says Deborah Decker, principal at Franklin County High School.

The school also has a powder puff game where the girls play football. Even though some of the events are different than when the Calls were students, decades later generations still remember the parade.
