Angels of Assisi Wins First Place for Rachel Ray 100K Challenge

ROANOKE,VA (WSLS)  The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals announced Tuesday that Angels of Assisi in Roanoke is the first place winner of the Rachel Ray 100K Challenge.

During June, July and August, Angels of Assisi adopted out more than 800 animals-- up more than 400 from the same period last year.

The group attributes its success to partnering with the local PetSmart, which resulted in 300 adoptions.

A "Guardian Angel" program was also launched, where the organization covered medical costs that saved 100 animals.
