ROANOKE (WSLS) – People looking to visit the area will now have more ways to save thanks to a new feature being offered on the region’s local tourism website.

The site, www.visitroanokeva.com, is run by the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.

People looking to come to the area can now create ‘packages’ on the site, receiving discounts when booking a hotel room and purchasing event tickets together.

The organization recently received a $50,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation. That money will be used to air advertisements around the state that direct travelers to visit the Bureau’s website. With the increased web traffic expected, leaders are hopeful the new tool will be explored by many.

Executive Director, Landon Howard, is hopeful the new feature will lead to more people staying for longer. He said convenience is key for travelers and this easy method of booking should encourage more visitors.

More than 20 hotels are taking part in the program, as well as a number of local entertainment venues.

A few packages are available now, with more being added in the coming months.
