ROANOKE (WSLS) - Mellow Mushroom, an upscale pizza restaurant chain, has plans to open in Roanoke.
According to Maryellen Goodlatte, the attorney representing the property owner Ivy View LLC., the company signed a contract to open next to the former Ukrop's grocery store on Franklin Road.

Currently the site needs to be rezoned before a Mellow Mushroom can be built.
The lot was zoned with stricter conditions back in 2004 which called for a parking garage and five other buildings.
Today Roanoke City Planning Commission approved unanimously to get the conditions lifted.
"The conditions that were appropriate in 2004 are no longer appropriate so in order for Mellow Mushroom and other potential users to come to the site the zoning conditions need to reflect how the site should be today," says Maryellen Goodlatte, attorney.
Earlier this year, Mellow Mushroom announced it'll be opening in Blacksburg.
Roanoke City Council will give the final approval on rezoning the site on September 15.
