River District in Danville gets revitalize

The "river district" which is in downtown Danville is getting a facelift.

Workers at Golden Leaf a new restaurant in the river district says victim successful especially since workers and working to revitalize downtown.

"Businesses has been great people have been very receptive to the downtown we have events downtown," Taylor Alvis manager at Golden Leaf said.

The city says they recently completed a portion of their street scape project, part of it is renovating sidewalks on Main Street.

It's something they say would attract more people to come downtown since it's more pedestrian friendly.

Another part of the project is te installation of free public wifi on Main Street.

Phase two of the street scape project is Main Street plaza.

It's a portion Main Street that is blocked off where people can enjoy downtown.

The city has invested about 30 million dollars to complete sidewalks as well as infrastructure projects and I renovate old warehouses like this one behind me that will become a clinic.

"We have seen a great response to this a 1-3 response we've seen 90 million dollars worth of private investment through redevelopment of buildings into mixed used facilities," Corrie Teague, project manager for the city of Danville economic development said.

Teague says this is new something the city is doing.

New buildings like the YMCA is opening in Danville in about a month.
