CHIP working to expand program for pregnant moms

Roanoke (WSLS) – Child Health Investment Partnership of the Roanoke Valley, a local nonprofit, is working to expand one of it’s programs in order to get more money.

CHIP has until the end of September to sign up 25% more women in it’s “Pregnant Moms” program.

If the organization can achieve that goal, it will receive $18,000.

The money would be used to market the program and pay for services for the additional women.

Women in the program work with a nurse throughout their pregnancy. They receive pre-natal education, home visits, and transportation to doctors appointments.

CHIP’s Director, Robin Haldiman, says growing the program is extremely important.

The organization has found that the earlier it’s able to work with mothers and kids, the more healthy children are and the more prepared they are for school.

That can lead to lower education and healthcare costs for the community.

You can contact CHIP at (540) 857-6993 if you would like more information about signing up for this free program.
