BLACKSBURG (WSLS) – The Blacksburg Police Department’s first drug dog is finally calling it a day after seven years of service.

“Chesty” will now enjoy retirement at the home of his handler, Officer Shannon Combs.  The two have worked side by side in the canine unit for more than three years now.

Combs says Chesty has always been a part of his family, but this week, town council made it official.

Chesty is credited with helping the Blacksburg police recover more than $10,000 in cash during his service.
