BLAND (WSLS) - Students in Bland County are waiting until Sept. 2 to go back to school this year, as the consolidation process is still in full swing.

The school board voted in June to combine Rocky Gap and Bland schools, creating one high school and one elementary school.

Leaders expect this to save up to half a million dollars a year, although transition costs may cut into that this year. They also say the move will get kids more involved outside the classroom.

Wednesday, the Bland County Bears football team spent the afternoon moving furniture into classrooms. Teachers, students and volunteers will continue to get the buildings ready during the next several weeks.Â
