"Safety is one of the biggest concerns, especially with what's been happening," parent Sonji Webb said.

That's why Pittslyvania County School leaders took action to install an "ident-a-kid" computer at the school. It takes pictures of visitors who come to the school.

Cameras have also been installed on the school buses. Digital cameras will monitor the front and rear of the bus.

"I think the security changes has helped us feel much safer here. We're able to keep entry ways locked now, but before they were open," Jenny Eaton Chatham Elementary School Principal said.

One of the new security measures at the school is the buzz-and-entry system.

"Surely we want to provide a safe environment for our students and staff. I think it helps us feel more secure in our facilities," James McDaniel Pittsyvlania County Schools said. Pittsylvania county leaders say all the security measures cost about $300,000, mostly paid with grants, but it's a price parents say you can't put on a life.
