VINTON (WSLS) - One woman has taken the painful loss of her husband and turned it into a way to make a difference.

Annette Carter is hosting a first-time golf tournament in the coming weeks to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association, but this is just the latest fundraiser in a long line the widow has put on in honor of her late husband, Jim.

She told the Alzheimer's Association that being an ambassador is a way to keep his memory alive.

"I said because I have a passion for this. I lost my husband. I want to do all I can do to get the word out and the awareness out about how devastating this disease is. From that day I'll do whatever it takes to raise money for Alzheimer's," Carter said.

Since 2011, Annette has helped raise nearly $30,000 through walks, selling quilts and soon a golf tournament.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, August 23 at Hanging Rock Golf Course at 1 p.m., Shotgun Start.

The deadline to register is August 12.
