The 4-star recruit out of Washington, Pennsylvania enrolled early but couldn't participate in the spring because he was recovering from a torn right ACL. McKenzie rushed for more than 2700 yards and 42 scores as a junior in high school.

Well---he was up and running at the Hokies opening practice Monday afternoon.

His 5-11, 220 pound frame was moving well, and Coach Frank Beamer took notice.

He pointed out in his post practice press conference that McKenzie made some natural looking cuts--something he says you look for..and that he was impressed with him.

McKenzie will be fighting for playing time with Joel Caleb and JC Coleman behind Hokies starter Trey Edmunds.
