Roanoke neighborhoods to celebrate "National Night Out" tonight

Roanoke (WSLS) - Hundreds of people from across the Roanoke Valley are expected to celebrate "National Night Out" later today.

The annual event aims to raise awareness about crime prevention efforts in local neighborhoods.

The Roanoke City Police Department will have more than 100 officers present at the events.

The department says "National Night Out" is important as it encourages community involvement which helps lower crime.

Many neighborhoods will host events in Roanoke.
