World Cup Fever Blacksburg

Blacksburg (WSLS) - Workers with the New River United Soccer Association held three watch parties including today's championship match.

It was at the Lyric Theatre, which is near Virginia Tech's campus.

Before the game, kids could get their faces painted and find out how fast they kicked a soccer ball with a radar gun.

They say the theatre was filled when they had their watch parties, and are excited soccer is becoming a popular sport.

"It's so cool to see the world cup just the support of everybody pouring to watch soccer to watch the united states when they were playing I mean it's been absolutely incredible to see that and just to see soccer grow especially in this area,"  Matt Gow, Director of Operations New River United Soccer Association said.

Organizers say they are already planning activities for the next World Cup.
