GREENBRIER COUNTY (WSLS) – The 2011 Greenbrier Classic champion, Scott Stallings and 2012 champ Ted Potter, Jr. were both on hand Monday for work on the driving range at the Greenbrier.
The two past champions will be joined by Stuart Appleby and last year’s champion Jonas Blixt, so all four past champions will be in attendance for this, the 5th version of the Greenbrier Classic.
For the last three tournaments the winner has captured their first win on tour at the Greenbrier. Potter, Jr. believes the results at this venue simply mirror what golf has become – a deep, talented sport that no longer is dominated by one superstar.
Potter says everyone on tour is so good that anybody can win and at the Greenbrier, the first time winners certainly give the young golfers confidence that they too can get a victory.
Last year’s tournament came to the wire with Jonas Blixt outlasting a a logjam of golfers two shots back, including Steven Bowditch.
The Australian captured his first tour win earlier this year and feels like the Old White offers the type of golf that he excels at. Bowditch says he likes the sight lines of the course, and enjoys the greens.
He says he will need to putt better to have a shot, and that hopefully he can roll a few in this week
