2014 Miss Virginia is from Pamplin

Roanoke (WSLS) - The 2014 Miss Virginia, Courtney Garrett is from Pamplin.

She was crowned Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center.

Garrett says she couldn't even stand when her name was called for "Miss Virginia."

She graduated from Liberty University and wants to be a role model for young girls and now with the Miss Virginia crown she wants to spread awareness on learning to accept people struggling with a disability.

"I can advocate for their equality I can advocate for their unity in the environment in the community advocate for their rights and just educate people to become more involved so that we we can come closer to a presence of an atmosphere of unity," Garrett said.

Garrett won a $17,500 scholarship.
