(WSLS)- The first couple is attending the U.S. Marine Barracks evening parade. President Barack and the First Lady will be among several thousand people enjoying the free outdoor performance in Washington, a tradition dated back to 1934.

John Dingell, Democratic Congressman from Michigan, will deliver his farewell address at the National Press Club luncheon. The 87-year-old, who is the longest serving House of Representatives member ever, will retire at the end of his current term.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte will host a dutch treat luncheon for area business and civic leaders this morning at 11:30. The event is taking place at Plantation on Sunnybrook in Roanoke.

Two Bedford County officers will be recognized during an 11 a.m. ceremony at the sheriff's office for saving two men after their boat capsized in a pond in May. Sheriff's Deputy Tim Shull and Game and Inland Fisheries Officer Dallas Neel swam to rescue the men when their boat started to sink.
