“Crossbones” starring the great John Malkovich as Blackbeard, premieres tonight on NBC at 10 p.m.

Blackbeard, played wonderfully by Malkovich, is both charming and ruthless as a man ruling a rogue island nation of criminals.

The complex pirate is a target of an assassination by a British spy, who pretends to be a doctor.

While I don’t want to give away too many plot details, I can tell you that this is a really fun show to watch.

There are plenty of twists and turns, and with an actor like John Malkovich steering the ship for NBC, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t turn into solid ratings for the network.

Malkovich is having the time of his life playing this character, and the universe around him is incredibly dark and seedy.

I’ve watched the first three episodes of the series, and it only gets better after the pilot episode.

I’m a bit tired of the “re-imagining” and “reboot” of classic characters, but NBC does a great job of being creative and intelligent with the show’s writing and by not distracting too much from Malkovich, who deserves center stage.
