Virginia Tech grads pledge to be green after graduation

Some Virginia Tech graduates will be wearing a green cord at commencement today.

It's a sign they've taken the Graduation Pledge to go green even after they've left campus. The university has put a big effort into green initiatives and sustainability, including installing solar powered trash cans around campus and its bike friendly campus which includes bike repair stations and racks.

Hundreds of soon to be grads have signed up for an online pledge to keep the focus on being green after today. "The pledge asks them to consider the social and environmental impacts of everything they pursue after college, whether its in their job or graduate program it travels, whatever they're doing," said Emily Schosid with Campus Sustainability.

Students can sign up online to take the pledge.
