Trident Seafoods has been filled with employees calling Bedford County home for several years, but with a for sale sign up on their lawn, county officials now have to prepare when the company moves out.

“We are anxious to find another company that can move right in and that this would be a seamless transition,” says Traci Blido, director of economic development.

When Trident first moved to Bedford in June 2012, a representative said employees were told it would be temporary while building a larger manufacturing plant in Georgia.

About 70 local employees work there and county officials want them to stay in the area. They’re hoping it can happen by finding another food manufacturing company to take Trident’s place that will hire.

However the building is just one of many that will be or is empty in the county. The county, state, and town are working together to market the properties better.
