Same-sex marriage case to be heard in Virginia today

Marriage equality will take center stage at a court hearing in Richmond today.

Later this morning, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit will hear arguments in the case of Bostic vs Schaefer.

Two different same sex couples are involved in the case.

One couple is seeking a marriage license.

The other wants it's marriage to be recognized in Virginia.

In February, a District Court judge ruled in the case that banning same-sex marriage in Virginia is unconstitutional.

That ruling was appealed by the defense, advancing the case to the appellate court level.

Today's hearing will begin at 9:30am.

Following arguments, Attorney General Mark Herring will hold a press conference with the American Foundation of Equal Rights.

The ruling in this case will impact Virginians. It also has the potential to impact surrounding states.

Roanoke Attorney, Terry Grimes, predicts a decision will come down within the next eight weeks.

He also says that no matter how the decision comes down, it will likely be appealed to the Supreme Court.
