America’s past time is taking center stage in Moneta–as there seems to be a powerhouse building on the baseball diamond at Staunton River high school. Building on a 2013 season that went 15-10 on the year and lost to Alleghany in the district semifinals, this group has seen it all, because they have been together since little league.
Coach Brian Divers explains that this core group of 15 or so has been together forever, and have put in the extra work necessary to excel when the season comes around.
That mindset is backed up by their record …8-1..3-1…in the Blue Ridge District, a mark they have reached due to consistency.
The players explain that they have worked on all phases of the game and they are equally skilled at each one making them difficult to exploit and defeat on any given day.
And that’s how coach Divers structured this team, solid in all aspects. But even better on the mound. Coach explains that the team’s core strength is pitching, and they feel like it will keep them in any game they are in.
