13 cars derailed out of 105 cars in the Lynchburg train derailment Wednesday afternoon.

NTSB investigator, Jim Southworth, said the train was going at 24 miles per hour during a press conference Thursday afternoon. The speed limit in that location is 25 miles per hour.

There were 105 cars total and all were carrying crude oil. Three tank cars ended up in the river in the derailment.

Southworth says right now the NTSB is still gathering information and later today will be interviewing the crew on board.

The NTSB has moved the cars to where they can inspect them further.
