QBs take center stage in Hokies’ spring game

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) – Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer still doesn’t have a handle on who will be the Hokies’ starting quarterback.

Mark Leal and Brenden Motley had their moments both this spring and in the annual Maroon-White game at Lane Stadium on Saturday, but neither dazzled enough to grab the job. The offense managed just a touchdown and field goal as spring practice concluded.

Leal, the fifth-year senior, was 10 for 18 for 90 yards, and Motley, a rising redshirt sophomore, was 6 of 11 for 72 yards. Both threw an interception.

Motley guided the White team on the lone touchdown drive of the game.

As the Hokies enter summer workouts, Texas Tech transfer Michael Brewer and freshman Chris Durkin will also join the competition.
