Bedford Co. scam alert

 A scam in Bedford County is believed to be targeting the elderly.

The sheriff's office tells WSLS men are going door-to-door claiming to work for American Electric Power.

The men ask for the person to step out of their home to see the electrical wires and tell them they need money for the wire repairs or their electricity will be shut off.

The Sheriff's Office says One victim had money stolen. 

Deputies believe the scammer distracted her while someone else was able to get inside her home from the back.

According to the sheriff's office, AEP does not come to individual homes to collect money.
