Some drivers in Roanoke City got a surprise Sunday afternoon.

Roanoke Police say there have been speeding concerns on Wiley Drive and for the past several weeks officers have been working that area.

Officer Billy Wood came up with an idea to reward drivers going the speed limit and watching out for pedestrians.  He looked for those drivers Sunday and then relayed their information to volunteers with the Citizens Police Academy Alumni.

A volunteer, standing at a stop sign on Wiley Drive held up a sign asking drivers to stop to receive prizes like gift cards donated by Kroger, TGI Friday's, and Chick-fil-A.

We're told they gave out about three dozen gift cards in a little over an hour.
