6-year old dies after Bedford Co. crash

A 6-year old Bedford boy died after a crash Saturday.

State Police say the accident happened at 2:50 p.m. on Rt 726 (Quarterwood Road ) just south Rt 691( Quarles Road ) in Bedford County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Ford Focus being driven by Emily Lynn Aponte, 30, of Bedford was traveling southbound on Route 726 when she crossed the center line and struck a 1999 Chevrolet Astro van that was traveling northbound head on.

The driver of the Astro van Danny Harrison Dooley, 59, of Thaxton was transported by ambulance to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. 

Ethan Wayne Aponte, 6, of Bedford, a rear seat passenger in his mother’s Ford Focus was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. State Police say he was in a child booster seat at the time of the crash but he was pronounced dead shortly after 11:00 pm.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
