ROANOKE COUNTY, Va.—Roanoke County Police were busy dealing with a suspicious package this morning.
Police say around 9 a.m. employees at Brookside Plaza off of Williamson Rd. saw a piece of luggage that was left on the sidewalk.
When investigators arrived, police believe the luggage was “suspicious” and called the state police bomb unit.
Around 11:30 a.m., Williamson Rd. was blocked off as the state police bomb unit blew up the package as a safety precaution.
“We got out there and took the necessary precautions we needed to take as far as moving people out of the area, brought the state police bomb unit to take a look at it,” says Roanoke Co. Assistant Police Chief, Chuck Mason. “They’ve taken their precautions and made it safe and we’ll move on from there.”
Williamson Rd. was re-opened around 12 p.m.
