More than a dozen friends, family, and people he worked with testified on Thursday for the defense's side in court. Shane Padgett is convicted for raping and killing 18-year-old Cara Holley.

Former students at Patrick Henry High School where Shane Padgett went to school remember him as being popular and somewhat of a "class clown".

Some people who were friends with Padgett in high school said he was "fun to be around and would do things to get attention." Padgett's former teacher and assistant principal at Patrick Henry remembers him doing things to get people's attention too, which got him in trouble for things like making noises in class.

Some people he worked with after graduation remember him for having a good work ethic and being easy to get along with. However, others also mentioned he was "quiet and strange." They also said he at times got upset with customers and would have to go in the back of the restaurant to calm down.

"I guess the last time I saw him he seemed in a daze," said former co-worker Gary Jones. "He seemed to be in his own little world."

At the end of each person's testimony, the defense's lawyers asked them about their reaction to Padgett's arrest for murdering Cara Holley and nearly all said they were shocked when they first heard about it and that it wasn't expected and out of character from the man they went to school with or worked with.

Padgett's family members also took to the stand, including his uncle and aunt.
