Schools and business in our area participated in the statewide tornado drill this morning. If you missed the drill, here is what you need to know to make a plan.

Before you hear a tornado siren or EMS alert, it’s important for your family to know what to do.

Tiffany Bradbury, Fire Prevention Specialist with Roanoke City Fire-EMS, says “the mountains don’t always protect us. Even though we are not going to have a tornado say like Kansas or Indiana, we still need to be aware.”

Pick a place where everyone can meet in your home like a basement or rooms with no windows.

Once you are there, crouch down on the ground in a ball facing the wall and protect your head from debris until the storm passes.

If you have any more questions you can contact your local fire department or visit ready.gov.
