When you think about sports at William Fleming, boys’ basketball is what comes to mind for most.
Well the Lady Colonels are putting their best foot forward to change that reputation. The program has been building one step at a time since 2010 and this year the girls find themselves in the state semifinals.
The banners in the gym give you the full story on the girl’s motivation. On their banner there is one thing missing, a state title. Coach says the combination of being overlooked because of the boy’s success and the absence of a championship on their banner make the girls work hard in practice and that translates in to the game.
These girls play aggressive. Diving after lose balls and fighting for rebounds, the hard work at practice and tenacity in the games has paid off. They sports a 11-1 record in district play and are 21-6 overall, currently riding a 7 game win streak that they look to build on this weekend when they take on Woodrow Wilson at the Salem Civic Center.
