A Roanoke man is behind bars, charged with armed robbery.

Salem Police say the robbery happened early Sunday morning in the 200 block of East Main Street.

Investigators say a female restaurant employee was walking to her vehicle when a man approached her and threatened her at knife point.

As the confrontation was happening, a fellow employee was walking out of the restaurant and approached his co-worker.

Police say the suspect then ran away.

The victim was able to give a description of the suspect to Police.

After searching the area, Salem Police arrested 32-year-old Adam Chitwood.

Police say Chitwood is being held in the Salem/Roanoke County Jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
