Youth Hockey Team Preps for Philly Tournament

Professional hockey has been gone from Roanoke for quite a while now but if you are a hockey fan in the area there is still a way to get your fix. It may just come in a smaller package.

That package lies within the Valley Youth Hockey Association and their “house” and “travel” teams.

The house teams play at the Roanoke Civic Center and the travel teams scour the area for teams in their Carolina Hockey League.  The travel teams calls themselves the Roanoke Express and their squirt team (made up of 9-10) year olds is 14-1 this season.

This Saturday they face their biggest challenge of the season as they head to Philadelphia to play in the Liberty Tournament.
