WSLS and Red Cross honor state trooper as Law Enforcement Hero

WSLS and the Red Cross honor our Law Enforcement Hero, Master Trooper Todd Haynes.

Last July, Trooper Haynes was driving home from work in Rocky Mount when he witnessed a woman flip her car.

The driver flipped over and landed in A fenced in ditch.

Trooper Haynes could see the woman, but then the situation got worse when he heard a baby cry from inside the car.

Trooper Haynes and a couple guys, who stopped to help, pushed the car on its side to keep the driver and her baby from drowning.

“They're the ones that didn't have to stop, they're the one that could have went driving straight up the road, I do what we do, I did what troopers do, we work accidents, we call and assist people, they're the ones that went above and beyond,” humbly explained Trooper Haynes.

He says it's rare for him to be the first one on the scene of an accident.  In fact, in about 15 years of being a state trooper he says it's only happened about three times.
